Alcoholism and drug addiction are family diseases. We at HPF, help start the process to repair and heal the whole family.
Substance use, whether alcohol / drugs, impacts the entire family system, which is why addiction is referred to as a “Family Disease”.
The family becomes organized around trying to manage the unmanageable disease of addiction. They may yell, withdraw, cajole, harangue, criticize, understand, get fed up, you name it. The addicted person becomes the central figure, around whom the family members organize their behaviors and reactions and lives. This family system becomes unpredictable, chaotic and frightening. Traumatized family members develop their own symptoms like anger, depression, insecurity, loneliness, sadness, anxiety, guilt, fear and shame to name a few.
